1st class week ending 10th November

10th Nov 2024
In English this week we have read the story of 'The Day the Crayons Quit'. The children focused on the 'll' sound in phonics as well as learning whether to use A or An before a noun. In writing they have been discussing when they need to use capital letters and full stops.

In maths First class have looked at ordinal numbers and they have been working on their mental maths skills. The children had lots of fun using playing cards to make a range of given target numbers.

In Irish we have started the topic of Food and learned lots of new vocabulary.

In History we compared houses in Victorian times with those today and in Geography we looked at a map of a town showing lots of different types of houses. In Science the children explored the topic of electricity including whether objects operated on mains or batteries.

In Art the children looked at the work of the Aboriginal culture and created their own interpretations of this.

The children brought in a range of different things for our show and tell afternoon. Our topic this week was 'Red'. They have been enjoying using their writing skills in Golden Time including writing menus and poems.
