First class 11th April

11th Apr 2025
Here are some of the things that First Class have been doing this week.

Maths
We have been doing lots of daily counting using our 100 square. This included counting forwards, backwards and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Continuing to practice this at home with your child would be really helpful. We have also focused on Weight this week. The children enjoyed using balance scales to weigh things around the classroom and we made a list of things that weighed around a kilogram.

English
The children read the story of 'the Playful Puppy' and answered questions in their copybooks. They also listened to the story 'No, David!'. We explored rhyming words this week and the children recited and performed a selection of nursery rhymes in groups to help with this. They completed some super drawings accompanied by adjectives and synonyms.

Irish
Sa Bhaile has been our topic this week. The children have been writing  new vocabulary into their copybooks and took part in mini table quizzes each day.

SPHE
The children have been learning that it's important to look after their wellbeing. We have also discussed things that feel and don't feel nice and how to express this to others. Having our bare feet touch the grass was definitely on the feel good list!
