First Class 21st March
21st Mar 2025
Maths
This week First Class focused on the topic of 'Time'. We examined the different components of a clock including the hour and minute hands aswell as what we usually do at different times throughout the day. The children learned how to tell the time using o' clock and half past. I have suggested to the children that they might like to write some diary entries of what they are doing over the weekend when they notice the clock showing o' clock or half past. We can share these in class next week.
For this weeks test near doubles was the focus.
English
The children read the story of 'the Swallows' this week and it was the focus of our comprehension task. Linking in with our SESE topic they recited the poem 'If I had a Fairy'. We also explored the importance of synonyms and why they are important in our writing.
Irish
The children wrote An Nuacht (the News) in their copybooks aswell as reading a story and playing some miming games.
SESE
Different aspects of Irish folklore where examined including whether certain plants had special powers. The children designed their own fairy tree house which looked fantastic.
Art
Having looked at different types of plants and flowers the children created their own lovely flower portraits.
