First Class 3rd April
4th Apr 2025
The boys and girls in First Class have been super busy this week.
Maths
We have been looking at numbers up to 100 in class. We have been counting forwards, backwards, in 10s etc. They have been finding numbers on their 100 square with increasing speed and using the mathematical language of 'more than', 'less than', 'between', 'larger' and 'smaller' to describe different numbers. Practicing daily counting at home with your child would be really beneficial. We continued to explore fractions this week and discussed different strategies we could use to find half of a number.

English
The children enjoyed reading, listening to and reciting a variety of different poems this week including April Fools Day poems. They had a go at writing their own April Fools Day poems with different synonyms which was so much fun. We also examined poems with rhyming couplets (where the last line of each line rhymes). I have encouraged the children to play around with rhyming words this weekend and maybe have a go at writing a little poem to share in class. 'Dinosaurs love Doughnuts' was a firm favourite when it came to listening to stories this week.
Irish
The children have been focusing on learning a variety of different verbs. We have played games and drawn pictures to help with this. They have looked at new vocabulary beginning with the letter m.
SESE
We went on a lovely spring walk in the sunshine this week. The children were delighted to be able to observe some of changes in the season up close that we had previously discussed back in class.
SPHE
To aid the childrens understanding of our schools healthy eating policy First Class explored the 'Eat Well Plate' guidance. We discussed why a balanced and healthy diet is so important and the children expressed their learning by designing posters.
